TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Head coach Jennifer Hyde and the Florida State women’s tennis team released the 2017 spring schedule on Tuesday. The schedule features 17 matches against teams that finished last season in the ITA standings. “Each year, our schedule is among some of the toughest schedules in the nation,” Hyde said. “And (this spring) will be no different.”
This season’s ACC slate pits the Seminoles against 14 conference foes, eight at home. All eight home conference opponents finished in the top 44 of last season’s final ITA rankings.
The Seminoles will begin the season indoors at Columbia University (37) before heading to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Ohio State (6).
Following the ITA Indoor Team Championships, the Seminoles return home for the Military Appreciation match against Air Force, an annual tradition to honor student veterans as well as Lt. Commander Scott Speicher for whom the Scott Speicher Tennis Center is named.
“We are excited to once again host Air Force for our Military Appreciation match in honor of Lt. Commander Speicher,” Coach Hyde said. “We are proud to carry on the tradition of celebrating his legacy each year.”
Other matches of note include a match with Pennsylvania (47) in Tampa, Fla., part of a stretch that will see the Seminoles face eight ranked teams in nine matches.
Fortunately for the Seminole faithful, the home schedule is loaded with a total of 13 home matches, nine against ranked opponents, allowing fans many opportunities to come out and see Florida State play as they look to build on last season’s second round ACC Tournament appearance.
“I love that we have a home match heavy schedule as well, giving our home fans an opportunity to come out and support our team,” Hyde said. “We have some of the best attendance records in the nation, and love the support our community shows us when we defend our house.”
