The Beach Bulletin, Vol. 5: Staying the Course

Florida State’s Kristina Pellitteri is a senior on the Seminole beach volleyball team. Throughout the spring semester, Nina will provide fans with an in depth look into the Florida State beach volleyball program as the Seminoles vie for their first national championship in program history. We hope you enjoy the ‘Beach Bulletin’ with Nina during the spring semester.

Friday we head to Texas to compete against Houston Baptist, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and TCU. Coming back from a long, successful trip has definitely boosted our confidence; however, we are focused and ready to continue working towards that end goal.

Upon our return from California, we moved up in the rankings. Starting at No. 6 in the initial rankings, moving up to No. 5, and now at No. 2 is obviously very exciting for us, but we are continuing to stay humble and are ready to give it our all in every single competition from here on out.

Both Arizona and California were not a bad place to spend spring break if you ask our team! We were grateful to experience not only great competition but also beautiful weather. When I first arrived to compete in Arizona, my sister Stephanie Pellitteri surprised me. Stephanie graduated last year from FSU, and was also on the beach volleyball team. She flew down from Oregon to surprise me and watch the team play. It was really great to see her because now that she lives in Oregon, I do not get to see her that often.

Outside of practicing and competing, we had to opportunity to have some extra fun. Before some of our games we made some short hype videos, produced by sophomore Tory Paranagua. You can find the link to our hype video before playing Long Beach State on Facebook. Throughout the year we will continue to make short videos to post on social media showing how we get pumped up before we compete.

We also had the opportunity to meet up with members of the LA Seminole Booster Club. It was really cool to see we have such a large fan base even on the other side of the country. It was also really awesome to see those members cheering us on in each of our matches out in California.  On our last day in Cali, we got the opportunity to go to the Manhattan Creamery, where you get to make your own ice cream sandwich. Those ice cream sandwiches were a perfect way to end our trip!

Although we have returned from our nine-day trip to Arizona and California undefeated, we are still the same hungry and humble team that came together during the preseason this fall. Winning is always great, but we have to keep moving forward and focus on the new weekend of competition. We realize there is still a lot of season left, and always more room to improve. Make sure to keep up with us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook throughout our journey in 2016!
