The Beach Bulletin, Vol. 3: Welcoming Back Some Familiar Faces
By Kristina Pellitteri
My teammates and I are counting down the days to February 27, when we will kick off our season with the inaugural Florida State Beach Volleyball alumni match. We are really excited to welcome back the women who helped build our program. Last week, I had the chance to speak with alumnae Aurora Davis and Taylor Nyquist, who will return to FSU to play in the match in two weeks.
Aurora graduated in 2014 with a degree in Social Sciences and made her mark on the FSU beach volleyball team. Aurora was an exceptional captain and leader on our team. She was always the player everyone loved to watch. And we are all excited to have her back. Not only will we be seeing Aurora, but we will also have the opportunity to meet her baby girl, Kalohe, the newest addition to the Davis family! While speaking with Aurora, she expressed how eager she is to come back and play in the alumni event.
“It’s so amazing to be able to look back to when we were practicing at Sally Hall on one court, to now having incredible facilities, decorated alumni and National Championship appearances every year!”
Aurora also expressed how much it means to her to come back to such an amazing university and play as alumna.
“I gained so much from playing at FSU. I know that my time at FSU was instrumental in helping me develop into a professional on the AVP tour.”
Taylor Nyquist joined the team last year as a fifth-year senior and graduated last spring. “I am so excited to be able to play in the first alumni match, and see how great the team is this year. Being a graduate of FSU and a former athlete of the program has meant so much to me. I am able to come back and relive a weekend as a player and that is going to feel amazing.”
Although Taylor only played at FSU for one year, she feels as though FSU has molded her into the player she is now on the NVL pro tour.
“Even though I was only a part of the team for a short while, I felt so close to all the girls on the team. Going to FSU and now being an alumna was probably one of the best choices I’ve ever made.”
This alumni weekend gives former players the chance to come back and be reminded they will always be a part of the Florida State beach volleyball family. As the beach volleyball program continues to thrive at Florida State University, there will be plenty more alumni matches to be played and we are excited to welcome back our former players each year. I know I can’t wait to come back and play in the alumni match next year.
