Nine universities are scheduled to participate in the men’s and women’s races this year including Florida State, Embry-Riddle, Florida A&M, Jacksonville, Troy, University of North Florida, University of Tampa, University of West Florida and Warner Southern.
In 2005, the Seminoles dominated their home meet as both the men’s and women’s teams claimed the meet crowns. Top scorers from last year were Andrew Lemoncello who was the first to cross the line in the men’s 8K race with a time of 24:39.51 and Laura Bowerman in the women’s 5K race who finished in the third spot with a 17:56.45 mark.
The FSU Invitational meet happens in the same week as the announcement of Florida State’s women’s cross country team ranking in the top 15 in the nation. For the first time in the program’s history, the women are ranked 13th on the USTFCCCA Poll, the second highest ACC team on the list.
“This is a testament to their hard work and I’m glad that they’re being recognized nationally now for the excellence,” Head Coach Bob Braman remarked.
