Derrick Brooks will be the keynote speaker at this years Golden Torch Gala
Oct. 24, 2003
The Thirteenth Annual Golden Torch Gala will be held on Monday evening, October 27th in the Tom & Ginny Futch Ballroom in the University Center Club. The event begins with a 6:00 pm Reception and 7:00 pm dinner and program. The Golden Torch Gala is the Academic Awards Banquet for all FSU student athletes. This year, 161 student athletes who made the ACC Honor Roll will be recognized as well as the student athlete on each team with the highest GPA for the 2002-2003 academic year.
Highlighting the event will be the keynote speaker, Derrick Brooks. Derrick is a former FSU football student athlete who earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Communication. He was named a University Trustee in 2003 and was the 2002 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
The Golden Torch Gala is one of the few ceremonies of its kind, celebrating the academic honors of FSU student athletes. In 2002, 15 out of our 17 sports were ranked 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the number of ACC Honor Roll members. FSU also set school records for number of student athletes graduating in December (47) and number of Football student athletes graduating in December (15).
A complete post-gala story and photo gallery will available after the event.
