Thomas, Wright Earn All-ACC First Team Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Seniors Shakayla Thomas and Imani Wright were announced as members of the 2018 All-ACC First Teams by both the league’s 15 head coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel on Tuesday afternoon.

It is the second consecutive year Florida State Women’s Basketball has had multiple All-ACC First Team selections. In 2017, Thomas and point guard Leticia Romero were both chosen to the league’s first team by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

For Thomas, she joins only Notre Dame center Brianna Turner as the league’s active three-time first team selections as chosen by the head coaches. Thomas, a Sylacauga, Ala., native, was chosen to the first team as a sophomore in 2016 and a junior last season as well.

Thomas has become one of the most decorated Seminoles in program history, becoming the first three-time All-ACC First Team selection at FSU. This season she is averaging 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and has nine 20-point games.

Wright is a first-team selection for the first time in her Seminole career, showing a 3-point range that is nearly unrivaled in the conference. The Hooks, Texas, native has already shattered the FSU single-season 3-point field goals record with 97. Her 3.5 made 3-point field goals per game is first in the conference.

Wright has several big performances this season, highlighted by her 33 points scored against North Carolina and her 31 points on a school-record nine 3-point field goals at Wake Forest. She is averaging 17.0 points per game, averaging a team-high 33.0 minutes and leads FSU with 10 20-point games.

Thomas and Wright’s selections to the All-ACC First Team mark the third time multiple FSU players have earned first-team honors. Besides last year’s honorees, three Seminoles in Leonor Rodriguez, Alexa Deluzio and Natasha Howard were recognized on the first team in 2013.

Florida State finished the regular season with a 24-5 overall record and went 12-4 in conference play. FSU is a third seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament and will play either No. 14 seed Pittsburgh, 11th-seeded Wake Forest or sixth-seeded Miami on Friday at 8 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.

FSU’s Friday night game will air on the ACC’s regional sports networks, which will include FOX Sports Sun locally.
