Thomson Earns Top 25 Finish

Oct. 24, 2010

Junior Hannah Thomson shot a one over par score of 73 in the final round and finished in a tie for 22nd in the individual standings and the Florida State women’s golf team finished 15th place in the team standings as play in the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall came to a close. Thomson carded her best round of the tournament as she earned the seventh top 25 finish of her career and her best finish since a tied for 10th place finish at the spring 2010 Bryan National Collegiate.

No. 5 UCLA rallied from a five strokes down entering the third and final round to earn the team championship. The Bruins were five strokes behind Duke entering the final 18 holes and won the championship with a five stroke win over North Carolina. The Blue Devils finished in fourth place. Brittany Altomare of Virginia and Tiffany Lua of UCLA shared medalist honors with two under par scores of 214.

Thomas (Perth, Australia) finished as the Seminoles’ top golfer for the first time in her career with scores of 76-76-73. She was never more than two strokes over par during the final round and was one stroke under par over her final 10 holes of the round. During her 10 final holes, she carded three birdies and five holes at par. It marked the second time in Thomson’s last five rounds that she had carded her season’s best score of 73.

Sophomore Jessica Negron (Ocala, Fla.) also finished the tournament well with a two over par score of 74 in the final round. She finished in a tied for 33rd place with scores of 73 in the first round and 74 in the third round.

Florida State was without its top two players during its final tournament of the fall season as senior Macrena Silva and junior Maria Salinas were representing their countries in the Women’s World Amateur Championships. Silva led Chile to a tie for 28th place finish while Salinas led Peru to a tie for 35th place finish in the team standings.

With the conclusion of the Landfall Tradition, Florida State closed out its fall season. The Seminoles will open their 2011 spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 13-15, 2011.
