Thomson Leads Noles’ Golf Team

Oct. 23, 2010

WILMINGTON, N.C. –
Junior Hannah Thomson shot her second consecutive round of 76 and senior Andrea Kaelin carded a 74 to lead the Florida State women’s golf team in the second round of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. Thomson is the Seminoles’ leader on the scoreboard with a two day total of 152 while Kaelin is tied for the second highest ranking for Florida State with a 36 hole total of 154. The Seminoles are in 16th place in the team standings entering the third round.

Florida State is playing without two of its top players – Maria Salinas and Macarena Silva – who are representing their countries (Peru and Chile) in the Women’s World Championship tournament in Argentina this week.

No. 6 ranked Duke shot the best team round of the day (four under par) to take over sole possession of the lead in the team standings. The Blue Devils hold a five stroke lead over No. 5 ranked UCLA heading into the final round.

Thomson (Perth, Australia) played her best golf on her front nine as she carded six of nine holes at par or better with three birdies. With back to back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes (she began the round on hole No. 10) she brought her score back to even and finished her first nine holes at one over par. Thomson added two birdies in the second round to being her total to six during the first two rounds. Thomson is in a tie for 35th place in the individual standings.

Kaelin (Fleming Beach, Fla.) led the Seminoles with a two over par score of 74 as she continued to play well for Florida State. After taking a redshirt last season, she has earned her way into the Seminoles’ starting line-up in two of their three tournaments this fall and entered the Landfall Tradition looking to earn the best finish of her career. Kaelin led Florida State with a score of 74, with three birdies and with 12 rounds at par or better in the second round. Kaelin is in a tie for 45th place in the individual standings with teammate Jessica Negron who carded a team leading 73 in the first round of the event.

Kaelin came within two shots of tying her career best score with her 74 in the second round. She carded a career best 72 in the third round of the season opening Cougar Classic.

Florida State closes out its fall season Sunday as they play in the third round of the Landfall Tradition. The Seminoles will open their 2011 spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic Feb. 13-15, 2011.
