TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida State men’s tennis earned three wins on day one of the Tallahassee Futures presented by Visit Tallahassee on Saturday inside the Indoor Tennis Facility.
In an interesting turn, the tournament draw pitted associate head coach Ryler DeHeart in a match against freshman Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar. DeHeart won 7-6(4), 6-2.
Junior Terrell Whitehurst quickly dispatched James Jackson (USA) 6-0, 6-1, while freshman Alex Knaff earned his first win at the Indoor Tennis Facility, a 6-1, 6-0 sweep of FAMU’s Karlyn Small.
“I was especially pleased with getting Terrell out there, he hasn’t played for a long time,” head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “I thought Alex was particularly sharp today- you can tell that he’s implementing a lot of the things we’ve been working on.”
The 64-player qualifying draw will continue on Sunday at 10:00 a.m., with eight of those players advancing to the 32-player main draw to begin Tuesday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free for fans throughout the event.
The finals will take place on December 10 (doubles) and December 11 (singles). All matches will be played at the Indoor Tennis Facility at 2566 Pottsdamer Rd., Tallahassee, Fla., 32310.
