TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Beach Volleyball team placed three student-athletes on the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) All-Academic team as announced by the CCSA on Wednesday. The Seminoles led all schools with three honorees as senior Julie Brown, redshirt senior Jace Pardon and redshirt junior Katherine Plessy were all recognized on this year’s team.
To be eligible for consideration on the CCSA All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative 3.3 GPA (either during her undergraduate or graduate studies) and have one year of residence at the institution.
“I am extremely proud of these three individuals for their hard work and dedication to excellence both in the classroom and on the sand,” Florida State head coach Brooke Niles said. “Jace, Julie and KP have been instrumental to the success of our program since they arrived on campus as freshman and to see them recognized for their academic success in their final season is a testament to each one of them.”
Brown is one of three team captains on the team in 2016. She has played at the No. 1 position all season posting a record of 21-3 in dual-match competition. With playing partner Jace Pardon, the duo secured eight match clinching victories for the Seminoles on the year. The Oviedo, Fla., is a two-time recipient of the CCSA Pair of the Week honors and was named a Preseason CCSA Beach Volleyball Watch List honoree. Brown is on track to graduate this spring with a dual degree in marketing and management and boasts a 3.51 GPA. She is a four-time member of the FSU Dean’s List and a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Pardon has also played at the No. 1 position all season posting a record of 21-3 in dual-match competition. With playing partner Julie Brown, the duo secured eight match clinching victories for the Seminoles on the year. Pardon, a two-time AVCA Beach All-American, sits as FSU’s all-time career leader in overall wins (140) and dual-match victories (78). The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native is a two-time recipient of CCSA Pair of the Week honors, was named the CCSA Beach Volleyball Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Preseason CCSA Beach Volleyball All-Conference team in 2016. Pardon earned her bachelor’s degree in international affairs in the spring of 2015 and is currently pursuing a masters’ degree in sport management where she boasts a 3.69 GPA.
Plessy has posted a 7-4 record on the year including a 6-2 mark in dual matches. As one of three team captains on this year’s squad, Plessy has played at the No. 3, 4 and 5 positions in 2016. She is a perfect 4-0 at No. 5, 2-1 at No. 4 and 0-1 at No. 3. In the classroom, Plessy is a four-time member of FSU’s President’s List (4.0 GPA) and a three-time Dean’s List honoree. She is also a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. The Marietta, Ga., native was named one of three FSU student-athletes to receive the 2016 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship. Plessy has served as President of the ACC and FSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council this past year and was awarded a postgraduate internship with the NCAA in Championships and Alliances for the 2016-17 season. Plessy, who is on track to graduate this spring with a degree in psychology, currently maintains an overall GPA of 3.93.
These three Seminoles have played an integral role in helping Florida State post a single-season record 24 wins in 2016 surpassing the previous record of 19 set in 2014. The trio has also guided the Noles to a 14-1 mark against ranked foes including seven wins against teams ranked in the top 10.
