ATLANTA, Ga. – The Florida State men’s tennis team advanced three of five players to the main draw of singles at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday. The team won four of six matches at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on the campus of Georgia Tech. Main draw play begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
“I was very confident with how I was playing and training the past two weeks,” said Goldin. “My fitness has improved immensely and I feel ready to go tomorrow against the No. 1 seed of the tournament.”
Davis took down Bernard Tefel of Miami 6-3, 6-0 while Goldin quickly won 6-1, 6-0 over Miami’s Jack Murphy. Albo defeated USF’s Everth Dzib 7-5, 7-6 (5).
Beginning in the first round, and needing to win two matches, was freshman Jack Haffey and sophomore João Gauer. Gauer won his match 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 over Mercer’s Austin Emmet. Gauer fell in the second match 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 to Federico Sabogal of USF.
Haffey lost in the first round to Maksim Yorsh of Kennesaw State 6-0, 6-1. In his consolation match, he defeated Murphy of Miami 7-6 (5), 6-3.
