Three Seminoles Make All-ACC Academic Teams

Tallahassee, Fla. – A trio of Florida State seniors were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-ACC Academic Team, Commissioner John Swofford announced Thursday. In addition to academic honors, Daneika Borthwick, Benjamin Lock, and Marco Nunez were also named to the All-ACC athletic teams earlier this year.

On the women’s side, Borthwick made the All-ACC Academic Team for a fourth-consecutive season. After graduating in 2015, Borthwick is working towards a Master’s degree in sport management. For her career, Borthwick has a 3.84 GPA, including a 4.0 mark during her spring season in 2016.

In addition to her classroom achievements, Borthwick also reached the NCAA Singles tournament for the first time and ranked as high as No. 31 in the country during the season. She finished in the top-10 of FSU’s singles and doubles victories lists.

Borthwick joins Katie Rybakova (2008-11) as the only Seminoles to make the All-ACC Academic teams four times.

For the men, Lock and Nunez paired together on the court and are now honored for their work in the classroom. Lock graduated in April with a finance degree and a 3.24 GPA. During his final season, Lock managed a 3.94 GPA in the fall and a 3.89 GPA in the spring. Athletically, Lock finished his Seminole career in the second round of the NCAA Singles tournament in May with 90 singles and 90 doubles wins, the third most combined wins in school history. He was the ACC Player of the Year runner-up.

Nunez also finished his final season with All-ACC honors, finishing second team athletically. He is continuing work towards his finance degree, and in April was honored as one of the ACC’s postgraduate scholarship winners, a $5,000 gift given to just three student-athletes at each school in the conference that will be used towards graduate studies. Nunez played at the No. 2 position much of the season, helping lead FSU to the NCAA Tournament for a 14th-consecutive year.

It was the first All-ACC Academic honors for both Lock and Nunez.
