TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
Three members of the Florida State Women’s Golf Team – Laure Castelain, Olivia Hullert and Carlton Kuhlo – have been named to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. The trio of Seminoles earned their way academically onto the list of 22 players who represented all nine ACC schools that sponsor the sport of women’s golf.
Florida State’s three selections to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team marked the eighth consecutive year the Seminoles have placed at least three players on the team. The Seminoles placed a team-high four players on the All-ACC Academic team in both 2008 and 2006 and have 26 total selections to the team in each of the eight years since it was first announced in 2006 (3.3 selections each year on average).
Florida State made their school-record eighth consecutive NCAA Championships appearance and finished in fourth place in the ACC Championship tournament in 2013. The Seminoles earned eight top 10 team finishes in 11 events and finished in a season-best second place at the Florida Challenge in January. After earning four top five team finishes during the spring season, the Seminoles played in the NCAA West Regional Championships for the first time in school history to conclude their season.
“I was pleased with the way each of the members of our team approached their academic responsibilities this year,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “One of the cornerstones of our program is high academic achievement and we continued to excel in the class room again this season. Academics is a priority within our program; our girls thrive on performing well in the class room and on the golf course.”
Castelain (Bordeaux, France) was named to the team for the second consecutive season in becoming the seventh Seminole to be named to the team multiple times during her career. As a sophomore she played in all 11 of the Seminoles’ events, finished second on the team with a 76.00 stroke average and earned three top 20 individual finishes. Castelain, a business major, finished in a tie for 16th in the individual standings at the LSU Tiger Classic.
Hullert (Baerum, Norway) was one of four freshman named to the team. She was the fifth leading freshmen golfer in the ACC with a 76.13 stroke average. Hullert, an international affairs major, finished in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings at the Florida Challenge during the spring season and carded her career low single round score of 71 in the third round of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Challenge during the fall season.
Kuhlo (Tallahassee, Fla.) enjoyed the best year of her two-year Florida State career as she played in a career high of five events including her first career appearance in both the ACC and NCAA Regional Championship Tournaments. Kuhlo, a professional golf management major, earned career low statistics for the best single round score of her career during the Florida Challenge and the Marsh Landing Invitational while playing as a starting member of the Seminoles line-up. She averaged a career low 76.57 strokes in 14 rounds during five tournaments for her sophomore season.
A student-athlete must earn a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career to be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team.
