Three Seminoles Travel To LSU For Indoor NCAA Last Chance Meet

March 5, 2003

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team travel across town this weekend to compete in the 53rd annual FAMU Relays. The two-day tournament starts Friday morning at 11:00 am with the men and women’s javelin throw competition. The tournament will wrap-up on Saturday with a full schedule of events beginning at 7:30 am with the women’s 3000m run and finishing with the 4x400m Relay.

The Seminoles will hope for some clear skies this weekend as they look to fend off the rainy conditions that have stormed through the Tallahassee area the last couple of days. Heavy rain and severe lightening put a damper on the Tribe’s home opener last weekend, cutting the meet short after completing only 16 of the 39 scheduled events.

The final indoor track and field meet before the NCAA Championships will take place this weekend in Baton Rouge as three Seminoles will travel to LSU for the NCAA Last Chance Meet. Sophomore Lacy Janson will look to improve on her mark of 14′ 0″ (4.27m), which set an ACC Indoor Championship record at this years ACC Championship meet. Her vault of 14’0″ tied her career best mark and broke the FSU indoor record previously held by Janson at 13′ 9″.

Senior Kim Jones will hope to receive an NCAA automatic qualifying bid in the long jump competition in Baton Rouge, La. this weekend. Her longest jump of the season came in Gainesville at the Gator Invitational when Jones compiled a third place finish at 20′ 2.25″ (6.15m).

Junior Dorian Scott will look to improve on his provisional qualifying mark in the men’s shot put competition that he set earlier this season at the Gator Invitational. Scott won the event with a throw of 61′ 10.25″ (18.85m). That throw currently ranks second on the team in the shot put and 12th nationally.

The Seminole outdoor track and field team will return home next weekend, when they host the Snowbird Invitational at Mike Long Track. The indoor season will conclude on March 14-15 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
