TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team concluded the inaugural Seminole All-Conference Showdown at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center, capturing three of the four singles flight championships on Sunday morning. “It feels really good to finish the fall season on such a high note,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “Winning three singles flights speaks volumes for what’s ahead for this team.”
Senior Daniela Schippers started things off for the Seminoles, quickly defeating Oklahoma’s Christiana Brigante 6-2, 6-0 to claim the round robin bracket title.
Freshman Andrea Garcia was not far behind, beating Oklahoma’s Ann Selim 7-5, 6-2 to win the “Gold” bracket championship.
Freshman Nandini Das captured the “Seminole” bracket with 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Alabama’s Smith Hinton.
In the “Garnet” bracket, sophomore Julia Mikulski played a long, hard-fought match with Ayan Broomfield of Clemson, eventually losing in a tiebreak 6-2, 6-7(6), 10-8.
The event concludes the fall season for the Seminoles, as they now turn their attention to the spring dual match season.
“I’m very proud of the effort they gave- we came together nicely as a team,” Hyde said. “They could not have been much better to end the fall season.”
