TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Fourth-ranked Florida State (3-0-0) returned from a successful road trip in State College, Pa., on Monday with a pair of victories over No. 9 Penn State and No. 12 Connecticut. Leading the way for the Seminoles was Tiffany McCarty who tallied a team-high six points on two goals and two assists. For her efforts, the freshman forward received National Team of the Week honors from Soccer America and TopDrawerSoccer.com.
McCarty, who started both games for the Seminoles over the weekend, compiled 111 minutes of action on the pitch. The Laurel, Md., native opened the weekend with five points on two goals and an assist in Friday’s 4-1 victory over Penn State. McCarty assisted on the first goal of the game and then solidified the Seminole victory netting the final two goals of the game.
The freshman forward followed up Friday’s performance with an assist in Sunday’s win against Connecticut. Off a deep throw-in from Jessica Price, McCarty sent a header to the top of the goal box where Lauren Switzer one-timed a shot for the goal.
McCarty finished the weekend with three shots including two shots on goal. She currently leads the team with six points.
McCarty and the Seminoles return to action on Friday, September 5 at 7:00 pm when Florida State welcomes Florida International to the Seminole Soccer Complex. Fans can catch all the action over the internet as the game will be shown live on ACC Select. FSU will then host inter-state rival Florida on Sunday, September 7 at 4:30 p.m. The game between the Seminoles and Gators will air live across the entire state on FSN Florida. Admission to all home games is free.
