TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior Joep Tigchelaar and senior Vicky Gill were named the men’s and women’s ACC Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week for their record setting performances at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend.
Tigchelaar won the men’s 10,000m in a time of 28:33.81, breaking a Florida State school record that held strong for 32 years. Tigchelaar’s time was a personal best and good for an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, June 11-14. He currently holds the top spots nationally and in the ACC.
Gill finished second in the women’s 10,000m, receiving an NCAA automatic bid running in a time of 33:14.98. Her time crushed the old school record by more than 44 seconds, a record previously held by Gill in a time of 33:59.67 set back in 2002. She currently holds the No.1 ranking nationally and in the ACC in the 10K. This is her second ACC Performer of the Week honor and first in track and field. Gill was named ACC Performer of the Week during the 2002 cross-country season.
