Feb. 9, 2012

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State head coach Sue Semrau announced junior guard Morgan Toles has been granted immediate eligibility to play this season by the NCAA on Thursday.

The Division I Legislative Council Subcommittee for Legislative Relief granted Toles’ waiver. Toles is medically cleared for competition by Florida State and will be available to play versus Wake Forest tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Joel Coliseum.

Toles, a 5-9 guard from Fayetteville, Ga., will wear No. 1 for the Seminoles.

“I’m extremely happy for Morgan, and I’m excited for our program,” Semrau said.

Toles started 52 games for Auburn from 2009-11 and led the SEC in assists (5.15) last season. She transferred to Florida State in January.

Toles has two years of eligibility remaining.

“Florida State was the perfect fit for me to continue my basketball career,” Toles said. “I’m looking forward to playing for the Garnet and Gold. I’m really excited about it.”

Toles missed the final five games of the 2010-11 season due to injury.

The necessary evaluation and tests were performed by the FSU medical staff, which has determined that she is medically fit for competition at Florida State University.

“We support Morgan, and we are excited for her to continue her basketball career at Florida State,” Toles’ parents, Vicki and Alvin Toles said in a joint statement.

Toles averaged 8.6 ppg in addition to her conference-leading assist numbers and started 24 of 27 games for Auburn in 2010-11. During her freshman season with the Tigers in 2009-10, Toles averaged 7.6 ppg and 4.4 apg en route to capturing SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

As a prep star, Toles was ranked the No. 4 point guard and No. 27 overall prospect by ESPN Hoopgurlz in the 2009 Class. She was a two-time Fayette County MVP and two-time First Team All-Georgia selection at Sandy Creek High School.
