Greensboro, NC – In the first week of voting, Florida State All-American catcher Tony Richie earns this week’s ACC Player of the Week while Demon Deacon junior Kyle Sleeth is named ACC Pitcher of the Week.

Richie, a junior from Jacksonville, Fla., went 5-for-11 (.455) with two home runs and nine RBI as Florida State swept Evansville in its home opener. FSU’s starting catcher also scored five runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.000 for the three-game series. On the defensive end, Richie allowed no passed balls and wasn’t charged with any errors. He recorded a career-high five RBI in Saturday’s win over the Aces. Richie is hitting .324 with a team-best three home runs for the second-ranked Seminoles (8-1).

Florida State returns to action this weekend with a three-game home series against Appalachian State. Game times are 3:30 p.m. on Friday, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. LHP Matt Lynch (3-0), RHP Mark Sauls (2-0) and LHP Trent Peterson (1-0) are FSU’s scheduled starters.

Sleeth, a Westminster, Colo., native captured his 21st straight victory against Appalachian State, setting a new ACC record for consecutive wins. The right-handed pitcher allowed just two singles in six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and no walks.
