Top 20 Moments: #3 – Academic Success

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Women’s Soccer program turns 20 in 2014! In conjunction with celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Seminole soccer team is counting down the top 20 moments over the last 20 seasons.

Join the Seminoles throughout the fall on Seminoles.com and through their social media outlets on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as the program takes a look back in history to honor this monumentally occasion by unveiling the top 20 moments.

The countdown continues this week at No. 3 in looking at the academic success of the program.

The Florida State soccer program has not only accomplished a great deal on the pitch through its 20 seasons as a Division I program but it has also achieved a ‘tradition of excellence’ in the classroom.

Since the program’s inception, eight Seminoles have earned either Capital One Academic or NSCAA Scholar All-America honors 10 times. A total of 50 Florida State players have been recognized on the ACC All-Academic Team since 2005 – the second most in the league. FSU has had two players named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in Tori Huster (2011) and Kassey Kallman (2013).

Becky Edwards became the first Seminole to be named an Academic All-American by CoSIDA/Capital One earning third team honors in 2009. She was also FSU’s first two-time first team Scholar All-American by the NSCAA (2008 & 2009). Kallman earned Academic All-America second team honors in back-to-back seasons in 2012 & 2013 becoming the program’s first two-time Academic All-American in school history. India Trotter holds the distinction as FSU’s first Scholar All-American claiming first team accolades in 2005.

In 2014, Dagny Brynjarsdottir added another academic first for the Seminoles as she was honored as the NSCAA’s Scholar Player of the Year.
