TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A pair of top five teams will face off on May 4 in Tallahassee as No. 5 Florida State (42-5) welcomes No. 1 Florida (47-4) to JoAnne Graf Field on Wednesday night. The evening will consist of two games – a regular seven-inning contest beginning at 5 p.m., followed by the conclusion of the April 13 game that began in Gainesville. That game was halted due to rain in the bottom of the ninth inning with the game tied at 0-0, as Florida had runners on second and third.
“Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun and some exciting softball,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “We’ve been steadily improving and clicking as a team and it will be an outstanding opportunity to challenge ourselves against the No. 1 team at home. Looking forward to having our fans in the stands as we play both of these games.”
Florida holds a 21-14 advantage in the all-time series, dating back to 1997. The most recent victory for FSU over the Gators came on April 2, 2014 when the Seminoles earned a 3-2 victory in eight innings in Gainesville.
The Noles are 2-6 all-time against teams ranked No. 1 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, with the last victory coming in a 3-2 win over Arizona State on March 20, 2008 at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
FSU ranks in the top five in the country in scoring (7.98 – third), on-base percentage (.454 – fourth) and stolen bases (2.49 per game – fifth), while Morgan Klaevemann is fifth nationally in runs per game (1.26) and stolen bases per game (0.93).
Both games on Wednesday will be broadcast online, with the 5:00 p.m. game being shown on ESPN3, while the conclusion of the April 13 game will be shown through NolesTV on Seminoles.com.
Tom Block and Lacey Waldrop will be the play-by-play and color commentators for both games, with Ariya Massoudi working as the sideline reporter. Live stats for both games will be available on Seminoles.com.
