DURHAM, N.C. (seminoles.com) – Florida State’s James Ramsey and Peter Miller were recognized for their efforts this summer as they were named to Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA.
Ramsey and Miller were two of 17 players from the Atlantic Coast Conference named to this list, while the ACC led all conferences with four players ranked as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues.
Ramsey had an outstanding summer in the Cape Cod League with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. The Seminole outfielder hit .314 (33-for-105) in 30 games with five doubles, three triples, six home runs and 28 RBI. He also drew 26 walks and was 7-for-8 in stolen bases. Ramsey capped the summer off as he was named MVP of the East team at the 2011 All-Star game. The Alpharetta, Ga., native went 1-for-3 in the game with a solo home run and a walk as he led the East to a 4-1 victory. Ramsey batted in the leadoff spot during the All-Star game and started in centerfield playing all nine innings.
Miller also had a great summer pitching for the Winter Haven Loggerheads of the Florida Collegiate Summer League. The right hander appeared in seven games making six starts as he posted a 2-3 record with a 2.87 ERA. Miller ranked fourth on the team in innings pitched (31.1), while leading the Loggerhead pitching staff with 42 strikeouts. His strikeout total was good for the fifth most in the league. The Lutz, Fla., native allowed just 10 earned runs and 22 hits this past summer.
Ramsey was ranked the 26th-best prospect in the Cape Cod League and Miller came in at No. 7 in the Florida Collegiate League.
