Track And Field News Predicts Florida State As Repeat National Champions

Dec. 13, 2006

The December issue of Track and Field News takes a look at the upcoming track and field season and discusses Florida State’s recruiting class as well as installs the defending national champion Seminoles as favorites to repeat at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in June.

In terms of recruiting, T&FN lists Florida State at number five on a list that includes UCLA, Baylor, Oregon and Florida. The three new comers that are predicted to be instant scorers are steeplers Luke Gunn and Mark Buckingham and halfmiler Andrew Krummins of Australia. Gunn and Buckingham came from England and joined the cross country team during the 2006 season.

The article also looked forward to the 2007 NCAA Outdoor National Championship and resident expert John Auka made his predictions on who will score the points in each event and which teams will make it to the top ten.

Individual National Champion predictions for the Seminoles include Walter Dix doubling in the 100m and 200m, Ricardo Chambers in the 400m, Tom Lancashire in the 1500m run, and the 4x100m relay team that was also a favorite last season despite not competing at the finals.

Auka’s prediction on team scores puts Florida State as the champions with 57 points over a tied Arkansas and Texas with 37.
