GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s and women’s track teams kicked off the 1999 indoor season with the Florida Intercollegiates today at the O’Connell Center. No team scoring was kept at the meet, but FSU had several event winners.
Taking first place in their respective events for the Seminoles were: Darius Jones (long jump, 24-2.25), Jody Lawrence (weight throw, 59-9) and Iain Harnden (200m, 21.94). Harnden was also third in the 55m high hurdles with a time of 7.54. Also recording top three finishes for the men were: Jason Dean (2nd, pole vault, 16-2.75), Mario Lowe (2nd, triple jump, 49-10.50), Greg Jack (3rd, shot put, 49-5.75) and the 4x400m relay team (2nd, 3:18.25).
Tonya Carter was the top performer for the Lady Seminoles as she took home a second place finish in the 55m dash with a time of 6.98. Shannon Steele (high jump, 5-7.75) and Makiba Batten (shot put, 44-11.75) added third place efforts for the FSU women.
Both teams return to Gainesville next weekend for the Florida Invitational as they continue their indoor seasons.
