TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State track and field will travel to Philadelphia, Penn. to compete in the 108th running of the historic Penn Relays. The meet will get underway on Thursday, April 24th and will conclude on Saturday, April 26th. A total of 19 athletes will travel this weekend to take part in various field and distance running events. After coming off an impressive showing at the ACC Outdoor Championships, the Seminoles will now concentrate on adding to their 31 regional qualifiers to compete at the NCAA East Regional Championships and vie for a spot at the NCAA Championships.
On the men’s side, ACC Outdoor Rookie of the Year Garrett Johnson will head to Philadelphia looking to add to his impressive numbers in the shot put and discus events. Junior Dorian Scott, who finished as the conference runner-up to Johnson last weekend, will compete in the shot put as well. Dan Royal will take part in both the hammer and discus throw events, while Josh Bowling will join Royal in the hammer competition.
Giscard Titus, Phillip Daniels, Maarten van den Heuvel and Sean Campbell will run in the 4x800m relay. The Tribe’s time of 7:40.96 is the fastest recorded this season in that event. Senior Danyne Brown will participate in two events this weekend, both of the hurdle variety, as he will run in the 110m and 400m hurdle events.
Senior Makiba Batten will be the lone competitor in the women’s field events taking part in the shot put and discus events. In the 5000m, Allison Lind and Misty Harper hope to run their way into the Regional Championships. The Garnet and Gold will compete in three relay events including the distance medley, the 4x200m and 4x400m events. Running in the distance medley are Natalie Hughes, Vicky Gill, Evelyne Niako and Laura Gerber; the 4×400 includes Tamara Campbell, Evelyne Niako, Shauna Quinn and Laura Gerber; in the 4×200 will be Tamara Campbell, Evelyne Niako, Shauna Quinn and Kim Walker.
