TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men and women’s track and field team play host to their second consecutive meet at Mike Long Track with the 2003 FSU Relays. The four-day tournament kicks off Wednesday, March 19th with the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon events. Day 2 of the relays are set to begin at 9:00 am on Thursday with the men’s hammer throw and wrap-up at 8:00 pm with the 5000m run. Friday will feature a full schedule of events starting at 10:00 am and finish with an array of championship finals, which start at 6:30 pm. The tournament concludes on Saturday with the final day of competition featuring both field and running events. The field events kick off 10:00 am, while the running events get under way at noon.
The Seminoles will welcome 36 schools to this year’s meet including SEC powerhouse Florida, ACC foe Clemson, and the Big Ten’s Michigan Wolverines. In-state rivals Florida A&M, Jacksonville, North Florida, South Florida, Tampa, and UCF will also compete this week. A total of 46 teams will be in Tallahassee starting Wednesday to take part in the FSU Relays.
At last year’s meet, the Seminole squad had an impressive showing with strong performance from Kim Jones, Shauna Quinn, Sean Campbell, Jeff Atkinson, and Dorian Scott. Jones once again led the way for the Tribe finishing first in both the women’s 100m hurdles and long jump competitions. Quinn compiled an individual victory in the 400m dash with a time of 55.69.
Campbell, Atkinson, and Scott led the men’s squad for the Seminoles. Campbell was the top performer for the Tribe in the mid-distance events. In the field evens, Atkinson and Scott both picked up first place finishes in the pole vault and shot put respectively.
The Florida State men and women’s relay team also won a pair of relays. The men took the 4×100 and 4×200 events, while the women placed first in the 4×100 and 4×400.
