Track Teams Finish Sixth at ACC/SEC Challenge

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s and women’s track teams both
finished sixth at the ACC/SEC Challenge in a field of 10 teams. Tonya
Carter highlighted the day for the women while Mario Lowe and Jody Lawrence
were the men’s top performers.

Carter, a junior from Douglasville, GA, won the 55m dash in a time
of 6.93. In the prelims, she had day’s fastest time of 6.91, a personal
best.

For the men, Lowe was the only other first place finisher with a
triple jump of 50-0.75. The mark put him ninth on the school’s all-time
triple jump list. Lawrence broke his old FSU record in the weight throw
with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 63-8.75.

Chinette Johnson (2nd – triple jump, 40-4.25), Makiba Batten (3rd –
shot put, 44-10.25), Aaron Scheer (2nd – 3K, 8:30.85), Michael Maier (3rd –
3K, 8:32.85) and Jason Dean (2nd – pole vault, 16-8.75) also had impressive
outings.

Next up on the FSU track schedule is the Iowa State Invitational on
February 5th.
