Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 32 Florida State women’s tennis team takes flight today, headed for San Diego, Calif., for two matches. FSU plays at San Diego on March 6 at 10:00 a.m. and then March 8 at 2:00 p.m.
Noles Edge USF… In Tampa, Fla., for a midweek match-up against the Bulls, the Seminoles took number two and three doubles and three of six singles matches in FSU’s first road win of the 2005 season. Senior Mihaela Moldovan clinched the victory at the number one position beating Vernon in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.At number one doubles, #8 Moldovan and junior Lindsay Deason lost 8-1 to USF.
Moldovan On Another Streak… After her undefeated singles streak last season, all eyes were on Moldovan to see if she could do it again. After a season-opening loss, the third-year senior has won her last five matches, including (two) game winners.
On the Road Again… Florida State is in the middle of a five match stretch away from the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Tribe played at Tampa on Wednesday, returned home to leave on Friday for San Diego. After playing on Sunday and Tuesday, FSU flies back to Tallahassee for a day before heading to Miami for matches against the Hurricanes and FIU. The away stretch is the longest of the 2005 season.
Looking Ahead… Once the Seminoles wrap up their trip to south Florida, FSU opens a five-match homestand beginning with a March 14 contest against ACC newcomer Virginia Tech at noon.
