TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Three members of Florida State’s nationally ranked women’s golf team – freshman Amanda Doherty along with juniors Kim Metraux and Morgane Metraux – have been named to the All-American Scholar Team by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. It marked the fourth consecutive year that at least one Seminole had been named to one of the nation’s most prestigious academic teams.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.50 required for consideration.
Kim (Management) and Morgane (Management) are the fourth and fifth players in school history to be named to the team three times while Doherty (Exploratory) became just the third freshman in school history to earn the honor. Only one player in school history (Whitney Brummett in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) has been named the WGCA Scholar Athlete Team four times.
“I am incredibly proud of every member of our team and their incredible commitment to academic success,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “For Amanda as a freshman, for Kim and Morgane earning their way onto this team in three consecutive years and for all 12 members of our team being named to the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll says so much about the culture of our program. I am proud to be the women’s golf coach at Florida State.”
Each of Florida State’s honorees on the 2017 WGCA All-American Scholar Team earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages during both the fall 2016 and spring 2017 academic semesters.
All three players were members of Florida State’s lineup during its historical season on the course in 2017. The Seminoles were ranked No. 1 nationally, won a school record six tournament championships, finished a school-record tying best second in the ACC Championships and led the ACC in stroke average for the first time in school history. Individually, the Seminoles had a school record four golfers named to the All-ACC team (Matilda Castren, Lydia Gumm, Kim Metrauxand Morgane Metraux), and won a total of five championships (Morgane Metraux, 3; Matilda Castren, 2).
Florida State was one of six teams in the ACC with at least three golfers named to the All-American Scholar Team in 2017.
