TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three members of the nationally-ranked Florida State swimming and diving teams were recognized by the league office on Tuesday. Seniors Kelsey Goodman and Tom Neubacher swept the ACC Diver of the Week honors while junior Kaitlyn Dressel picked up the Female Swimmer of the Week award.
Neubacher won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the meet against third-ranked Florida, posting scores of 384.75 and 375.55 respectively. Neubacher showed his dominance for the No. 16 Seminoles as he won both boards by a combined total of 94.75 points.
“I thought the whole diving team did a great job,”Neubacher said. “Especially coming off of break, we were all thriving off each other and really had a great time diving and competing against the Gators.”
It was the second Male Diver of the Week honor of the season for Neubacher.
Goodman earned her third weekly award by winning 1-meter against the fifth-ranked Gators with a score of 292.50. She was also second on 3-meter with a mark of 295.20, just three points behind her teammate Katrina Young.
“Being recognized for my hard work is awesome,” Goodman said. “My senior year is coming to an end, so it’s a little bittersweet, but I’m excited to close out these next few months on a high note.”
As the Female Swimmer of the Week, Dressel swept both sprint events outlasting her teammate Tiffany Oliver for the one-two punch. Dressel and Oliver held off Florida’s Natalie Hinds for the second-straight meet with the Gators in order to pick up some big momentum for the Seminoles in the duel. However, FSU fell seven points shy of the upset (153-147).
“Racing the sprint events in that meet is so much fun,” Dressel said. “It’s become such a great battle between all of us and it’s motivating to know that it’s coming every time we see Florida.”
