Trio of Seminoles Tabbed as ACC Players of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three Florida State football players were honored for their performances in Saturday’s 24-20 victory over NC State by capturing ACC Player of the Week accolades.

Senior DeMarcus Walker was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week, while redshirt freshman quarterback Deondre Francois shared Rookie of the Week honors and sophomore wide receiver Nyqwan Murray collected Receiver of the Week.

Walker nabbed the award for the second time this season and fourth time in his career after totaling 10 tackles and two sacks against the Wolfpack. His sacks pushed his season total to 10.5, which leads the nation. Walker previously was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week earlier this season after he had 4.5 sacks in the second half over No. 11 Ole Miss in Camping World Kickoff in Orlando. He grabbed the honor twice in 2015, as well.

Francois shared the conference’s Rookie of the Week honors with Wake Forest’s Jessie Bates and Miami’s Ahmmon Richards. Francois passed for 330 yards, including 228 in the second half, and threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Travis Rudolph with 3:09 remaining in the game to complete the 10-point comeback. The Orlando, Fla., native has four 300-yard games this season and was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. He has five ACC Weekly honors overall, having won ACC Offensive Back of the Week following the season opener.

Sophomore wide receiver Nyqwan Murray picked up his first weekly honor from the ACC after he was spectacular against NC State with nine catches for 153 yards, including a 37-yard catch on the final offensive drive that set up the game-winning touchdown. Murray’s reception and yardage total are both career highs.
