COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three members of the Florida State volleyball team will head to the U.S. Olympic Training Center this weekend to participate in the U.S. Women’s National Team tryouts. Adrian Ell alongside transfers Kelsey Wicinski and Payton Caffrey will represent the Seminoles in Colorado Springs.
Ell, Wicinski and Caffrey are among 229 athletes from 90 colleges and universities participating in the tryouts that determine the U.S. Women’s National Team and U.S. Collegiate National Team. These tryouts are conducted by U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Karch Kiraly and his staff.
“I’m really proud of the young ladies attending the tryout this spring,” said head coach Chris Poole. “This is a great opportunity for them to compete against the best college players in the nation over the weekend.”
Wicinski joins 47 other liberos from around the country in the tryouts, while Caffrey is one of 59 outside hitters and Ell is one of 44 setters.
The tryout will involve four sessions with three waves per session. Friday’s first session goes from 2-8 p.m. MT, while Saturday’s sessions are at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The final session on Sunday begins at 7:30 a.m. MT with tournament style play, along with 16-18 athletes selected by the U.S. Women’s National Team staff to participate in a “USA” training session. The Sunday session wraps up at 10:30 a.m. MT.
Ell, Wicinski and Caffrey join Brianne Burkert, Tiana Jackson, Katie Horton, Christina Ambrose, Sarah Burrington, Sareea Freeman, Mara Green, Hailey Luke, Katie Mosher, Ashley Neff, Mercedes Vaughn, Elise Walch, Nicole Walch, Sarah Wickstrom and Kiara Wright among those that have participated in tryouts since 2011.
“We have been very fortunate to have a lot of players picked in the past for the summer programs,” Poole said. “I know these three young ladies will represent FSU Volleyball very well this weekend.”
