Two Seminole Baseball Players Earn Weekly Conference Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s John-Ford Griffin and Mike
Ziegler were selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player and
Pitcher of the Week for their play this weekend against Stanford.

Griffin, a sophomore, hit .667 (10-for-15) as FSU’s designated
hitter over the weekend series. The Sarasota, FL native also extended
his hitting streak to 14 games as FSU won two-of-three from the former
No. 1 team in the country. Griffin had four doubles and a triple with
four runs scored and four RBI against the Cardinal. Griffin leads the
team with a .528 batting average this season.

Junior RHP Mike Ziegler, a transfer from Tallahassee Community
College, earned the ACC’s first pitcher of the week honor. In just his
third career start as a Seminole, Ziegler got the win in FSU’s 13-1
Sunday victory over Stanford after working 7.0 innings and giving up
just one run. He struck out 13 of the 29 batters he faced, the highest
strikeout total for a Seminole pitcher since Chris Chavez recorded 13 at
Georgia Tech last season. Ziegler is 2-0 this season with a 2.37 ERA
and a team-high 24 strikeouts.

Florida State, now ranked No. 1 in the country in all three
polls (Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and USA Today/ESPN
Coaches), travels to Gainesville for a two-game series with No. 19
Florida this weekend. Saturday’s game (televised by Sunshine) will
start at 2:00 p.m. withSunday’s contest scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. first
pitch.
