Two Seminoles Take ACC Performer Of The Week

Oct. 21, 2008

Tallahassee-Seminole’s Daniel Roberts and Susan Kuijken nabbed top honors this week after being named the ACC Performer of the Week for their efforts at the NCAA Pre-Nationals this past weekend.

Sophomore Kuijken (Nijmegen, Netherlands) rightfully took the title of ACC Performer of the Week for the women when she set a course record in the 6K run with 19:48.2 as she crossed the finish line first. Kuijken helped the No. 3 nationally ranked Seminoles tie for first with No. 5 ranked Princeton.

“Susan is starting to wind up for the conference and NCAA championships,” said women’s head coach Karen Harvey. “She is well deserving of this honor, but Susan will continue to focus on getting more fit and stronger every week as we enter into the championship part of the season.”

On the men’s front, junior Roberts (Vicksburg, Mich.) also set an impressive record as he finished the 8k race at 24:10.1. Robert’s time places him at a tie for eighth with senior Luke Gunn’s 2006 performance on Florida State’s all time 8K best list. Robert’s finish guided the No. 15 nationally ranked men’s cross country team come in fourth place.

“It’s a great honor for Daniel to get ACC Performer of the Week,” said men’s head coach Bob Braman. “He has made himself a better distance runner and is doing a fantastic job. Daniel will look to use this as a spring board to prepare in getting All-ACC honors in two week at the ACC Championships.”

Florida State’s cross country team will hit the trails running on November 1st at the ACC Championships.
