TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The USA Summer Diving National Championships concluded Sunday at Florida State’s Morcom Aquatics Center. 130 of the nation’s best divers convened in Tallahassee for the six day meet, including two current Seminoles, Terry Horner and Aleia Monden.
Horner did not disappoint his home crowd, as the rising senior reached the finals in all three of his events. The highpoint for Horner was his second place finish in the 1-meter springboard finals. Although he was the defending national champion, he was beat out this year by two-time Olympian Troy Dumais. In the 3-meter finals he faced stiff competition, rising as high as third but ultimately finishing the event in seventh place. In his final event of the meet, the men’s synchronized 3-meter springboard, Horner and his partner, University of Texas diver Jonathan Wilcox, finished in fifth place after disappointing dives in the first rounds of the finals.
Senior Aleia Monden was looking solid in her only event, the 10-meter platform, but a balk in the fourth round of the preliminaries essentially eliminated her chances of reaching the the semifinals. Monden ultimately finished 22nd in the preliminaries, 3 spots shy of reaching the semi-finals.
