Feb. 23, 2004

Tallahassee, FL –
Seminole senior Jessica van der Linden was named ACC Player of the Week for the second week in a row Monday. The senior battled through injury to pitch two no-hitters, bat .444, drive in three runs and score three times. This is the third consecutive week a Seminole has taken home ACC Player of the Week honors and every weekly honor so far this season has been won by a Seminole. This is the fourth ACC Player of the Week award in van der Linden’s four-year career.

Despite playing with an injured left hand, van der Linden not only dominated at the plate this past week but she tossed two no-hitters in three games. The senior struck out 37 batters in 18.2 innings of work while issuing just three walks as she raised her record to 6-1 on the season with a 0.51 ERA. With her two no-hitters last week, the senior now has seven no-hitters for her career, which bests the total amount of no-hitters FSU amassed in the four years prior to her arrival in Tallahassee. Van der Linden continued her amazing strikeout pace this past week as well as she now has double-digit Ks in four of her seven appearances. This season van der Linden had amassed 80 K’s in just over 40 innings of work. She is doubling her career average of one strikeout per inning so far this season.

At the plate, van der Linden once again led FSU. She posted a .444 average and recorded three more RBIs. The Cerritos, CA native slugged .556, scored three runs and recorded four more hits as well. She displayed her trademark discipline as well drawing four walks and not striking out once in five games.
