Volleyball Falls to ACC Leader North Carolina

October 9, 1998

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After dominating the first game 15-6, the Florida State volleyball team lost three straight games by scores of 7-15, 11-15, 8-15 and fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels in Atlantic Coast Conference action. FSU falls to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in league play while UNC improves to 16-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the ACC.

“We played super the first game, but just couldn’t sustain the intensity,” FSU Head Coach Dr. Cecile Reynaud said. “North Carolina is playing very well offensively as well as defensively and it was just disappointing not to be able to beat a team like that. They are undefeated in the ACC and playing very well.”

Florida State was led by junior middle hitter Aisha Thornton’s 16 kills while senior outside hitter Holly Schneider recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Seniors LaToya Washington and Susan Hawks each added double figure kills with 13 and 11, respectively.

The Tribe continues ACC action with a 7 p.m. match vs. NC State tomorrow night in Raleigh, NC.
