WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Florida State volleyball team continues conference play this weekend as it heads to North Carolina to face two ACC rivals – the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Duke Blue Devils.
FSU has now split its six conference matches 3-3 after defeating Miami and falling to Pittsburgh at home last week. That record puts the Seminoles right in the middle of the ACC standings and tied with Notre Dame, Miami and Duke.
With its four-set win over Wake Forest last season, FSU holds a 10-match win streak over the Demon Deacons, which is the longest in the series between the two teams dating back to 1996. The Seminoles have only dropped seven matches to Wake Forest in the series, the most recent of which was in 2010.
Although Duke holds a 37-18 record over Florida State, the Seminoles have won five of the last six meetings in the series. FSU has not beaten Duke in Durham since 2009, but has won four times at home since that year.
While the team has not won an ACC match on the road this season, two wins this weekend will help to boost it higher in the conference standings and keep the Seminoles’ goal of a postseason run alive.
Seminoles Stat Leaders
The Seminoles’ offense will be led by senior outside hitter Milica Kubura, who is currently averaging 3.81 kills per set, with 202 kills on 453 total attacks already this season. Burkert has also recorded a double-double in 10 of the 14 matches the team has played so far, and has now recorded 23 double-doubles in her career. She recently became the eighth different Florida State player to record a triple-double, which she accomplished against Notre Dame on Oct. 1.
On the defensive side, senior libero Cecilie Woie leads the team with 236 digs (4.29 digs/set). Burkert follows right behind her with 174 digs (3.16) already this season.
