TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — With only a few short weeks to go until the start of the 2009 season, the Florida State volleyball team officially started preseason practices this week on Lucy McDaniel Court at Tully Gymnasium.
The Seminoles are looking to build off a 2008 season that saw them finish with a 21-9 record in what was head coach Chris Poole’s first season at FSU.
Now, with a full offseason program under his direction and the infusion of a few talented freshmen, the Seminoles are looking to get back into the postseason in Coach Poole’s second year.
FSU returns four seniors including outside hitter Mira Djuric, who took a medical redshirt last season. Her fellow seniors are middle blockers Brianna Barry and Jordana Price and setter Nikki Baker. The 2009 Seminoles feature four seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen.
The team will practice twice daily the rest of this week and will follow the same routine the next two weeks as they prepare to host the season-opening Florida State Invitational Tournament on Aug. 28. The Seminoles’ first match of the season will take place that day at 7 p.m. against Central Michigan.
