TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team played their first game of the season in Tully Gym on Friday night (8/17), taking on the South Alabama Jaguars in a preseason exhibition.
The Seminoles won in three sets, defeating the Jaguars 30-28, 25-20, 25-20. FSU is back tomorrow as they host the annual Garnet vs. Gold scrimmage at 3:00 pm.
“I thought overall it was a good night,” said head coach Chris Poole. “We identified the weaknesses we need to focus on and still have a week to improve before playing another opponent. I believe the potential for the team is very great, but we need to be more consistent with our overall play. Our defense and offense can both be more aggressive and we missed way too many serves.”
The team released a limited edition mini poster this weekend, available to the first 250 fans in Tully Gym. The team will also sign the posters after Saturday’s scrimmage.
Florida State opens the season next week in Minneapolis, facing No. 4 Minnesota and No. 9 Wisconsin in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The team’s first home match is set for September 7th as the Seminoles take on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams.
