Volleyball’s Thornton and Soccer’s Ford Earn ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State athletes were well-represented in this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference honors, released by league officials this afternoon. Junior middle hitter Aisha Thornton earned Co-Player of the Week honors for volleyball while senior forward Jill Ford was selected the league’s women’s soccer Player of the Week.

Thornton led the Lady Seminoles to a perfect 3-0 record last week as Florida State posted straight-set victories over Florida A&M, Virginia and Maryland. Thornton averaged 3.89 kills and 1.00 blocks per game and rounded out the week with an impressive .464 hitting percentage. Her best match of the week was a .706 performance vs. FAMU where she recorded 14 kills and three blocks.

For the week, Ford contributed three goals, including two scores in the Seminoles’ 3-2 overtime upset of No. 15 Maryland. The win was Florida State’s first ACC victory of the season. Ford also added a goal in the Seminoles’ 4-0 shutout win over Stetson.
