COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Florida State outside hitter Nicole Walch is one of 19 players competing for a roster spot on the Pan American Cup team, for matches set for June 30 through July 11 in the Dominican Republic.
Walch, the lone Atlantic Coast Conference representative, is battling against Megan Courtney (Penn State), Brittany Howard (Stanford), Madi Kingdon (Arizona) and Taylor Simpson (Colorado) for the outside hitter position.
A native of Stuart, Fla., Walch capped off her four-year FSU career with 1,466 kills (3.55 kills/set), 944 digs (2.29 digs/set) and 47 double-doubles. In 2015, Walch was atop the Seminole roster in kills (459-1st), kills/set (3.83-1st), service aces (30-1st), digs (305-3rd), digs/set (2.54-3rd), solo blocks (5-3rd), total blocks (71-4th) and assisted blocks (65-4th). That garnered her a spot on the All-ACC First Team, AVCA All-East Region team and as an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.
Since ending her Seminoles’ career in December, Walch has played professionally for the Las Gigantes de Carolina in Puerto Rico. In addition she is of 24 players, along with former Seminole teammate Katie Mosher, competing for a roster spot with the Florida Wave. The Wave are an indoor professional volleyball team affiliated with the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) that is sanctioned by USA Volleyball.
“Nicole has continued to represent Florida State volleyball at the highest level,” said head coach Chris Poole. “This training team is a collection of the best players in the United States and the next generation of our Olympic team. I’m very proud of Nicole and this is an indication that her hard work is paying off.”
