TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State junior pitcher Lacey Waldrop was named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday. This is Waldrop’s fourth conference honor of the season.
Lacey Waldrop pitched spectacularly in four games this past week posting a 0.56 ERA and a 4-0 record, including three wins over ACC opponents Virginia Tech and NC State.
The junior was a strikeout machine in her two games against Virginia Tech and Florida Gulf Coast in Ft. Myers, Fla., recording double-digit punchouts in each game. Of the 33 outs made while she was in the circle against the Hokies and the Eagles, 23 were strikeouts.
Waldrop came back to Tallahassee and pitched every out of Florida State’s two wins in a doubleheader against NC State on March 15. Against the Wolfpack, Waldrop threw 14.0 innings and gave up only five hits, three runs, two earned and recorded 14 strikeouts.
For the week, Waldrop recorded 37 strikeouts in 25.0 innings over four appearances and faced a total of 92 batters which was just 17 more than the 75 minimum.
“Lacey is a great leader on this family and I am really happy for her, though awards like this are made as a team.” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “Our entire pitching staff has been working so hard this year and it is great to see them be so successful, from Lacey and Burroughs to Nori and Bailey coming out of the `pen. I’m excited to see this team continue to work and pursue our goal of reaching the World Series.”
The No. 10/11 Seminoles (25-4, 6-2 ACC) are on the road this week as they head to Jacksonville on Wed., March 19 for a doubleheader against North Florida (17-11, 2-7 A-Sun) starting at 4:00 p.m.
