TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior Lacey Waldrop has been selected to the Watch List for the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced. The entire watch list is available here.
“It is great for Lacey to be named one of the top 50 players to watch this year,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “She works very hard and is excited about the opportunity to go out and compete all season long. While this is an individual award, it is only possible because of the team around her that works together as a unit to make each part better. For her to represent Florida State on a national level is a huge honor.”
The 2013 NFCA Third Team All-American looks to build on last year’s success in the circle where she went 24-10 with a 1.53 ERA. She also recorded 259 strikeouts in 219.1 innings and limited opponents to a .191 batting average. As a sophomore she threw 17 complete games, five shutouts and only allowed six home runs. Waldrop was also named to the 2013 All-ACC First Team as well as the 2013 ACC Tournament Team.
The Watch List will be pared down to 25, 10 and three finalists before the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year is announced on May 27 prior to the start of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The No. 12/15 Florida State softball team will begin its season at 4:00 p.m. ET on February 7 against No. 9/9 Nebraska at the Hotel Encanto Classic hosted by New Mexico State University.
