TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – For the fifth time in her relatively young career, Florida State sophomore pitcher Lacey Waldrop has garnered an Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week award after sharing the honor with NC State’s Emily Weiman, announced by the ACC on Tuesday morning.
The Chester, Va. native earned the award after pitching superbly against two of her home state schools in Virginia Tech and Virginia last week. In three games started, Waldrop finished 3-0 with three complete games, a 1.66 ERA and 16 strikeouts. The ACC Pitcher of the Year candidate also held the opposition to a .160 batting average.
Waldrop has been named a conference pitcher of the week three times this season. In last year’s stellar campaign where she became just the third freshman pitcher at Florida State to earn All-ACC honors, Waldrop earned ACC pitcher of the week twice.
To begin the week on April 15, Waldrop struck out 10 against Virginia to mark her fifth double-digit strikeout performance this season. For the whole week, opponents were just 4-for-28 against her with runners on base. Sunday’s victory at Virginia Tech gave Florida State the regular-season title in the ACC and assured it of a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament held May 9-11 in Tallahassee.
Waldrop is 19-7 this season with a 1.65 ERA and has 195 strikeouts in 165 innings pitched. In ACC play, she has been even more dominant with an 11-2 record and a 1.31 ERA. Nationally, she is ranked in the Top 40 in victories (27th), strikeouts (29th), ERA (35th), strikeouts per seven innings (36th) and hits allowed per seven innings (38th).
Florida State wraps up its regular season with a three-game series at Georgia Tech on April 27-28. Every game will air live on ESPN3 or can be accessed on the WatchESPN app.
