Athens, Ga.- Florida State women’s tennis team had a successful day despite weather conditions for the second day in a row. Despite heavy rainfall causing the singles matches to begin four hours late, two Seminoles came out strong and showed progress at the Wilson/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
In her first math of the day, third seed sophomore Katie Rybakova defeated Georgia Tech’s Lynn Blau, 6-0, 6-2. Rybakova remained unbeaten as she won her second match against University of Alabama’s Paulina Bigos, 7-6 (1), 6-2.
Equally successful yesterday was teammate Lauren Macfarlane who went 2-0. The junior from Ogden, Ut., came out triumphant in her first match against University of Central Florida’s Jenny Frisell, 6-1, 7-5. In her second stint, Macfarlane rolled passed University of Alabama’s Tiffany Welcher, 6-3, 7-6 (6) to put her in the round of 16.
“Both Lauren and Katie had a very good day today,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “They faced some challenges and it was great to see them fight through. They both played better as the day progressed.”
