Florida State closes out the 2004 regular season Saturday with a 7:45 p.m. (ESPN) contest against arch-rival Florida in Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminole defense has carried the team and is led by senior DT Travis Johnson, who is tied for first in the ACC with 16.5 tackles for loss. Florida State’s defense now ranks among the nation’s top four in three major statistical categories. The Seminoles are first in the country in rush defense, allowing just 61.9 yards per game. FSU is third in scoring defense (13.1 ppg) and fourth in total defense (260.0 ypg). In addition, the defense leads the nation in fewest yards allowed per rush (1.87). Florida State is 7-0-1 in the last eight home meetings against Florida and has won four straight since the 31-31 tie in 1994.
