Westbrook Leads Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship

Florida State senior Rick Westbrook played his two finest rounds of golf this season and is in a tie for 30th-place in the individual standings heading into Tuesday’s final round of the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship at the Palmetto Golf Club. Westbrook shot an even-par 71 in the first round and carded a two-over par 73 in round two. He is only nine strokes off the lead. Florida State is in 13th-place in the team standings.


Westbrook (Alto, Ga.) totaled a two-over par 144 for the 36 holes played Monday. His 71 in the first round tied his season low and ranks tied for the fourth lowest score of his Seminole career. Westbrook’s 144 two-round total is tied for his second lowest 36-hole score in his 19-tournament FSU career.


Sophomore Brad Lusenhop (Gloversville, N.Y.) also played well and is in a tie for 44th-place heading into the third round. He carded a stellar one-over par 72 in the second round. Sophomore Alan Beers (Midlothian, Va.) is in a tie for 57-place after tying his career-low with a one-under par 70 in the first round of the tournament.


Florida State played well as a team during the day and posted a 292 score in the first round and a 298 in the second round. The Seminoles’ 292 score is their third lowest team score of the season.


Virginia Tech holds the team lead with a two round score of 558. A pair of Hokies, Johnson Wagner and Brendon De Jonge, lead the individual standings with scores of 135 and 137 respectively.


Competition in the 54-hole tournament on the 6,380-yard Palmetto Golf Club Course ends Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes.
