BATON ROUGE, La. –
Florida State University sophomore All-American Caroline Westrup shot a three-under par score of 69 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf East Regional Championship and holds a placing among the leaders in the clubhouse after the morning wave of teams completed play. Westrup was nearly flawless during her round with three birdies and 15 holes at par to finish with her career-best single-round score in two appearances in the NCAA Championship. Westrup finished in a tie for third place at the regional championship last season after shooting a 71-72-70=213 – she is two strokes ahead of the pace she set for herself last season.
The Seminoles came of the course in 11th place and will not know of their final placement for the day until the round is complete this afternoon at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Senior Kayla Shaul (Cumming, Ga.) tied her career low with a one-over par 73 and is listed among the individual leaders through the first half of the round. She was one-under par with four holes to play but bogied two of her last three holes to finish at 73. Shaul also carded a 73 in the second round of the Auburn Tiger Derby during the fall of 2007.
