Westrup Continues To Lead Seminole Women’s Golf Team At Liz Murphey Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. –
Florida State sophomore All-America Caroline Westrup, the nation’s No. 2 ranked individual player, shot a two-over par 73 and is tied for third in the individual standings after the first two rounds of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University Georgia Golf Course. Westrup and the Seminoles improved their team score by 10 strokes in the second round as compared to the first round and are in 12th place in the individual standings entering Sunday’s third and final round.

Auburn remained in first place in the team standings. The Tigers are led by Nichole Hage and Margaret Shirley who are tied for ninth in the individual standings through the first 36 holes. Auburn has two golfers in the top 10 and three in the top 13 of the individual standings. Melissa Eaton of Louisiana State has a 143 two-day total and is in first place in the individual standings. She leads Westrup by two strokes in the race for the individual championship.

Westrup began her day on the 10th hole and faced adversity over the first six holes she played. After carding three bogies and two double bogies on her first six holes of the afternoon, she recovered and played outstanding golf at four-under par over her final 12 holes of the afternoon. Westrup was four under par with five birdies on her final nine holes of the round. She is bidding to earn medalist honors in this event for the second consecutive season. She was tied for sixth after two rounds last season and rallied to win the medalist honors by one stroke.

Florida State’s 10 stroke improvement we spread throughout the team as four of the five Seminoles in the starting lineup earned lower scores in the second round as compared to the first. Senior Jaclyn Burch led the way with an eight stroke improvement. She carded a 76 on Saturday after finishing with an 84 on Friday. Additionally, junior Whitney Brummett improved to a 77 from a 79; Lauren Cousart improved to a 76 from a 78 and Whitney Wright improved to a 78 from an 83.

The final round of the event is schedule for a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday morning.
